winner RTE Radio 1 Arena book cover design competition

My winning book cover design, due to be published Autumn 2013

V.E.C. [Very Exciting News]: I got a phone call from the RTE Radio 1 Arena show a couple of weeks ago letting me know that I had won the Book Cover Design competition they ran in collaboration with New Island Books and Dave Lordan, writer and editor.

The book is called NEW PLANET CABARET, and is an inspirational collection of short stories, crime writing, poems, and plenty more from a range of totally new voices, and well established talent. New Island Books are planning to the publish the anthology, along with my cover design, in Autumn 2013.

A day after the phone call above, I got a second phone call asking me if I would be available to do a phone interview live on the show that evening. So I did my first live radio interview. It was nerve-racking, and I stumbled a bit at the start, but the presenter very kindly helped me out, and the whole thing was over before I knew it. I’ve popped the podcast at the end of this post, if you need a bit of a laugh.

I’m really looking forward to seeing my design in print, and so delighted to be a part of such an innovative and creative outlet for new talent.

IWC novel fair competition 2012/2013

I’m just catching up on this year’s news NOW! So first on the agenda is the Irish Writers’ Centre’s Novel Fair Competition 2012/2013. I received an email in January from the IWC telling me that my children’s novel, PLAIN BORING, had been long listed for the competition!!

I was really excited because this was my first time entering, and I knew the competition was going to be very strong. Out of 300 entries, they chose 30 for the long list, with a final 10 names on the winners list – all of whom got the chance to sell their wares to publishers and agents at the Novel Fair in February.

I’m definitely going to try again this year, and get myself an invite to the ball!
